I tend to freak out and get hysterical first. I have to get that out of my system before I can be calm and rational. Then I get on my computer, and I research everything to death. I call around, I take notes, I make outlines and basically get every snit of information I possibly can.

But the breathing thing can be helpful for pulling me out of my drama and hysteria. Especially if you put your right hand on your forehead and your left on the back of your neck. I don't know why it helps, but it does.

Like Sarah, I'm very calm and collected during a crisis. In a fight I'll stay calm, speak slowly and quietly, and show little emotion (something that used to annoy the ex to no end), then freak out afterwards. In a situation like this, I'll go into overdrive, working to figure out what the problem is and how to resolve it.

Have you done much research online? Personally, I don't trust lawyers, especially when it comes to something as complicated as immigration law, so when I've had to deal with legal or immigration situations in the past, I've scoured the internet to figure out all the relevant laws and policies myself. VisaJourney is a great place to start, if you haven't been there already.

Good luck!

I am so laid back I am almost catatonic. Even in crises. It tends to annoy people as they think I'm not taking things seriously, but I don't figure freaking out actually helps achieve whatever it is that needs to be achieved.

Are you waiting for the attorney to formulate the game plan? Or are there waiting periods inherently involved in the game plan? 'Cause there is a difference.

Are you waiting because there are other clients who've gotten there before you?

I haven't been reading here for awhile so there may be part of the story that I don't have but if it were me, I think those would be part of the first set of nosy questions I'd ask. (But that's just me, and I've been accused of being confrontational like that.)

I'm infuriatingly calm and logical. Order and method (as per fictional detective Hercule Poirot) are my stand-by. I formulate a plan complete with alternate plans and stay involved. Half the time I end up watching a Poirot movie to reset myself into a logical thought baseline when I'm stressed. I'm definitely a more cognative than emotional person.

If I were in your position at this point I'd probably be writing my congresspeople and senators about how rediculous the restrictions are for travel between here and Canada. I mean, just because Canada handed the US our asses on a plate during the War of 1812 doesn't me we can't let their citizens back into our country *when they freaking live here.*
