About This Site

May 1st, 2007

My name is Morgan and I work in property management in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I’m a career girl, a sassy woman and feminist, and a compulsive eater.

I was raised by my mother, a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy. Growing up in the military meant growing up all over: being born in Honolulu, Hawaii and living in places like the beautiful Puget Sound area of Washington, and Western Australia. When my mother retired, we moved to her homeland: Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. So when people ask me, “Where are you from??” I skip the whole military story and just say, “Idaho.”

Among the beautiful lakes and majestic mountains of the Coeur d’Alene region, you’ll also find abnormally high concentrations of Mormons, white supremacists, anti-government militants, Californians, and the world’s only floating golf green. Nobody in Idaho eats Idaho potatoes. They all eat Washington potatoes.

I attended Cornell College, 1998-2002, and graduated with a degree in computer science. In a desperate attempt to avoid a summer in Idaho, I accepted an internship at a local art museum, and it changed everything. I finished the computer science degree but spent my last year in college studying studio art and feminist art history. The computer science Boys Club can just suck it. I was destined for arts administration!

After three years working for my first museum (one long, disastrous encounter with a woman I can only describe as the Wicked Witch Curator of the Midwest; and numerous non-profit budget problems) I moved to Minneapolis and I love it. This is an incredible city for the arts. In the fall of 2008, this online endeavor got me semi-Dooced, and now I work full-time as a property manager, managing over 150 apartment units and all the crazy residents that come with them.

I write about a lot of things I love: films, music, art. I write about Kiba, a rescue greyhound I adopted in March 2006. She’s the most adorable pain in the ass you could wish for. Joining her in July 2008 was a black short hair cat named Ray Charles. I didn’t pick the name - the uber-tattooed Canadian I married had that honor. I share this site with Ellie, a badass mother(fucker) who can bring the snerk.

I also write a lot about body politics. I’m fat. Actually I hate writing that phrase, and I hate saying it, but I can’t deny it. But more to the point, I’m learning that I don’t have to apologize for it. This site is a project in progress, because me making peace with my body - and ultimately getting this eating disorder under control - is a project in progress. I intend to hold people accountable for the fat hatred they put out in the world. I want to let other fat folks out there know that they have a voice and it’s perfectly acceptable to be what they are. The socially accepted practice of fatism and fat prejudice tries to isolate us and keep us under its thumb. Fuck that. Speak up, speak out.

I’m Ellie, the snerkalicious new contributor to FatGrrl dot com. I’m Fat. I’m also a Grrl. It’s perfect!

I’m a 30, married, stay-at-home mom to two very loud boys who spend massive amounts of time trying to kill each other, and welcomed our third - a daughter - in early December 2007.

I come from a Mexican/Anglo family, and was raised by various Aunts and Uncles throughout the years, in varying parts of the country. I spent the most amount of time with my extremely snarky schoolteacher Aunt in Memphis, TN, where her smart-assery must have rubbed off on me. My dad’s side is the Mexican side, and it’s true, I really do have 900 cousins. As an aside, I don’t look Mexican at all. I have gray eyes and fluorescent white skin. I practically glow in the dark.

I majored in Spanish in college because I’m lazy and went with something I already knew how to do. I ended up not doing anything with my college knowledge and went into the wonderful world of finance before deciding to stay home with my kids. I’ve been a bank teller, product developer, electronic banking drone, 401K advisor, and call center manager/online banking goddess. I cannot diagnose or treat any financial illnesses you may get. I am not FDIC insured. Interest rates may vary.

I’m currently living in Arkansas as a bright blue speck in one big-ass red state.

All I have to say that ladies that are big are not to be called fat. I think that when you call them that, it is so offensive and disrespectful. I like big ladies myself and regardless of what anybody says, I like to show em off. I like to make love to em and I think that if some one is going to love you, they will love you the way you are not the way you wanna be. I know that many men like big ladies but are embarrased to be seen with them. Untill they surpass that stage, they will be ignorant and live a life where pleasing other people is better and not themselves. They are miserable for not living happy trying to please others but themselves. There are ppl like me that are not embarrased and feel great of having a big woman that cares walking next to them either holding hands or just with them. Big ladies Rule……

I am a retired graphic illustrator, at 64 years of age, and I am a life-time student of the art of the renaissance. I attend art classes and workshops but the figure drawing classes have limited model(s) resources and don’t have full figure women that I prefer to draw. My instructors have given me a list of full-figure models but they are so in demand, some have a waiting list of four weeks. do you have any resources or know of websites that are not porn and have full figure women for modeling or photos.

    Hey, Michael:

If it were me, I would go straight to Craig’s List. I’ve seen a lot of postings there from folks looking for drawing/photography models. Many of the posters offer a reasonable compensation, or Trade-For-Portfolio option. Good luck!
